Join the VTCPA Young Professionals for a series of volunteer opportunities with the Vermont Foodbank!
When: October 15 from 8:30-10:30 AM (Chittenden County)
PLEASE NOTE: Registration ends one week prior to the event date.
What is “gleaning"? The Vermont Foodbank operates the state’s largest gleaning program. Gleaning is the act of harvesting excess vegetables from farm fields. Oftentimes the produce is top quality. Other times it may be irregularly shaped or has small blemishes. The Vermont Foodbank’s Gleaning Program works with over 600 volunteers to harvest and gather produce that may otherwise go to waste. This type of food rescue enables the Foodbank to provide healthy, local food to Vermonters who are at risk of hunger. Each year, we distribute approximately 465,000 pounds of fresh, local produce to Vermonters through food shelves, meal sites, senior centers, housing sites, schools and hospitals throughout the state.
In addition to registering on the VTCPA site, volunteers will need to complete the following steps on the Vermont Foodbank website:
1. Visit: www.vtfoodbank.volunteerhub.com2. Log in and skip to Step 3 OR Create an account
3. Find: Glean: Intervale on October 15 from 8:30-10:30AM on the event calendar.
4. Address/parking information: The group will meet at the parking lot directly across from the Intervale Center (180 Intervale Road, Burlington, VT 05401). The parking lot is your second left once you cross over the railroad tracks, directly next to large mulch piles and across the road from the brick Intervale Center.
