Membership Categories

Class A — Voting Public Member, 5+ Years

Any person holding a certificate or license to practice as a Certified Public Accountant for five years or more as of May 1 of the current fiscal year residing in or primarily employed within the State of Vermont may become a Voting Member of the Society, provided such person makes application to the Board of Directors. Upon approval of the application by a majority of the Board, the applicant shall become a Voting Member. Back to form

Class B — Voting Public of Industry Member, Less Than 5 Years

Any person holding a certificate or license to practice as a Certified Public Accountant for less than five years as of May 1 of the current fiscal year residing in or primarily employed within the State of Vermont may become a Voting Member of the Society, provided such person makes application to the Board of Directors. Upon approval of the application by a majority of the Board, the applicant shall become a Voting Member. Back to form

Class C — CPA Candidate

Any person who is working toward the requirements for licensure as a CPA provided such person makes application to the Board of Directors. Upon approval of the application by a majority of the Board, the applicant shall become a CPA candidate member of the Society. CPA Candidates shall not be entitled to vote or hold office in the Society. Back to form

Class E — Student Members

Any person, not qualifying as a Member under Classes A, B, C or F residing in or enrolled as a student in an accredited college or university in Vermont may become a Student Member of the Society, provided such person makes application to the Board of Directors. Upon approval of the application by a majority of the Board of Directors, the applicant shall become a Student Member of the Society. Student Members shall not be entitled to vote or hold office in the Society and must be Vermont residents or enrolled in a Vermont college or university. Back to form

Class F — Non-resident Member

Any person residing and primarily employed outside the State of Vermont, who holds a certificate or license to practice as a Certified Public Accountant issued under the authority of any state or territory of the United States, or any person who holds a certificate or license which is satisfactory to the Board of Directors to practice public accountancy issued under the authority of a foreign country, may become a Non Resident Member of the Society, provided such person makes application to the Board of Directors. Upon approval of the application by a majority of the Board, the applicant shall become a Non Resident Member of the Society. Non Resident Members shall not be entitled to vote or hold office in the Society. A Non Resident Member shall automatically become a Voting Member if he or she becomes a resident of the State of Vermont. Back to form

Class I — Voting Industry Member, 5+ Years

Any person residing in or primarily employed in an industry within the State of Vermont who has held a CPA certificate or license to practice as a CPA for five years or more as of May 1 of the current fiscal year, provided such person makes application to the Board of Directors. Upon approval of the application by a majority of the Board, the applicant shall become a voting member. Back to form

Class J – Associate Member

Any person (other than a CPA) employed as a professional or administrative staff of a voting member, a faculty member at an accredited college or university in Vermont, or other accounting and finance-related professionals in government, industry, and non-profit organizations, to include those in banking, legal, insurance, and investment services, provided such person makes application to the Board of Directors. Upon approval of the application by a majority of the Board, the applicant shall become an Associate Member of the Society. Associate members shall not be permitted to vote or hold office in the Society or be eligible to serve as a Committee or Task Force Chairperson. Back to form
