VT CPA Joins other states to advocate for Accounting as "Professional Degree"

A letter from VT CPA and our partner CPA Societies in New England (Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island) was sent to the Department of Education on March 2, 2026. The letter provided comments about the Department's Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, "Reimagining and Improving Student Education" (Document ID ED2025OPE0944). The letter encouraged the Department to provide clarification about the status of accounting as a "professional" degree in the Code of Federal Regulations.

The AICPA and other state societies, including CA, IN, LA, MN, NV, NJ and OH, have submitted similar comments.
