On June 8, H.588 officially became law in Vermont. This legislation adds a pathway for CPA licensure and updates mobility language to be in line with the Uniform Accountancy Act. The law opens an additional pathway for people who have graduated with a BA focused on Accounting, been supervised by a CPA for two years, and passed the CPA exam. The other pathways to licensure remain in tact, so this legislation provides another opportunity for those pursuing the credential. The law also modernizes the language around CPA mobility to keep Vermont current with other states and reduce barriers for Vermont CPAs serving clients and working in industries in other states.
Similar legislation has been passed or introduced in over 40 states and jurisdictions. Passage of this law maintains a rigorous standard for CPA licensure and keep Vermont competitive.
