Job Description

Turtle Fur, a 40-year-old consumer product company based in Morrisville, Vermont, in the outdoor and Snowsports space, was recently acquired by a group of professional investors who seek to take this beloved brand to the next level. To help achieve this goal, the Company has expanded the finance role to a full-time position and is looking for an accomplished, hands-on VP of Finance to join the team. This opportunity calls for a strategic yet roll-up-your-sleeves person to work in a highly collaborative organization, both at the detail and strategic levels.

The VP of Finance will be responsible for all strategic and operational aspects of finance and accounting and be instrumental in helping to drive efficiencies in the accounting, eCommerce, production, distribution, logistics, and sourcing departments as the company continues to scale. The VP of Finance will also share responsibility for the research, decision-making, and implementation of a new ERP system.

The VP of Finance will have the authority to assess and make necessary adjustments to the existing accounting structure and to implement an increased level of financial understanding across the entire organization. This person must have a strong background in accounting, cost accounting, finance, strategic financial planning, process development, and corporate operational experience. Understanding all economic levers and how to optimize their impact on value creation is critical to this role.

This position can be a hybrid position with a minimum of 50% of the time at the headquarters in Morrisville, Vermont.


Responsibilities/ Scope of Authority:

Partner with the CEO and the executive team to run the business and set strategies for the future.
Directly manage the accounting, human resources, and credit departments.
Lead financial planning and budgeting, develop and monitor KPIs, dashboards, and reporting tools.
In collaboration with investors, develop a monthly financial package for the board, lenders, and investors.
Redesign, maintain and develop the procedures for a weekly updated, 13-week cash forecasting tool.
Work with managers to build financial tools and procedures to help them monitor performance.
Develop and coach the existing accounting team and recruit additional staff for growth.
Manage banking, factor, and auditor relationships.
Manage all insurance relationships.
Manage the requests and requirements from the board and investors.
Lead risk management, including but not limited to credit, business continuity, and insurance.
Lead strategic matters relating to budgeting, cost-benefit analysis, and forecasting.
Monitor cash flow and profit to help the company achieve its aggressive growth goals.
Ensure financial controls are in place for accurate and timely financial reporting.
Within the first year, share responsibility for the research, decision, and implementation of a new ERP.
Establish the right processes, systems, and controls to support the business and its planned growth.
Understand and help refine the models, metrics, and levers that drive the business.

Experience and Qualifications:

Previous experience with a manufacturing or distribution business (consumer products a plus).
Experienced in high-growth environments.
Is well-rounded in accounting, planning, analysis, and control.
Understands cost accounting and can implement improvements to current cost accounting functions.
Is adaptable and can roll up their sleeves.
Can execute with a sense of urgency and accuracy.
Is highly detail oriented.
Ability to work in a private equity environment (previous experience a plus).
Will be able to contribute to value creation of a business.
Has the desire and ability to mentor.
Can participate in establishing and then executing high-level strategic decisions.
Has strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Must be an operational executive and have been exposed to various business models, challenges, and solutions.
Must be able to apply financial discipline across an organization.
Thrives in developing new, improved, or cost-reducing processes and methodologies.
Must be goal and results-oriented.
Has the desire and ability to work collaboratively at all organizational levels.
Has excellent management and supervisory skills.
Has solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
Has a high level of integrity.

Education and Experience:

Undergraduate degree, ideally in Finance or Accounting, Master’s degree preferred.
Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
The ideal profile would be someone who started in public accounting and obtained a CPA license, moved to a large global company where they got classical CPG training, but then moved into a nimbler environment where they thrived.
