Building on the foundations introduced in Part 1, this seminar focuses on applying ethical judgment to complex issues facing CPAs today. Through collaborative case discussions, participants will explore topics such as professional skepticsim, independence, client pressures, and emerging technology and other related challenges in practice. The session emphasizes dialogue and shared perspectives while strengthening participants' ability to recognize ethical risks and respond appropriately.

We are happy to be able to offer a session on Ethics specific to Vermont as a companion to Part 1, offered in person before the annual meeting.

The instructor will be VT CPA member Dr. Nicole Morris, CPA, Associate Professor and LaMarche Endowed Chair in Business Administration and Accounting at St. Michael's College.

Objective

After completing this session, participants will be able to:
  • Analyze ethical issues commonly encountered in contemporary accounting practice, including independence concerns, professional skepticism, and client pressures.
  • Evaluate ethical risks and conflicts of interest that may arise during professional engagements.
  • Apply ethical decision-making frameworks to determine appropriate courses of action when facing complex professional situations.
  • Assess emerging ethical challenges in the accounting profession and identify strategies for maintaining integrity and professional responsibility.
